Just a Hint of Pink

Today I figured I'd show some of my photos with just a hint of pink.  Can you find it?  That last one is of my kitty, Shadow.  He was my Valentine that year because my hubby was off at army boot camp.

Head on over to Beverly's to see all the fabulous pinks for today.

Yarr!

Avast! Tomorrow be Talk Like A Pirate Day matey!  Arrr you prepared? {giggle}  I'll be dressing up as a tavern maid as a surprise for DH.

After church we'll be heading downtown to partake in the Pirate Festivities.  They are having a Water Battle where ships of all kinds will be paddling down the river and shooting each other with various water weapons.  I'll also be trying my hand at an "Apple Pie-rate Ship" tomorrow.  We'll end the day curled up on the couch enjoying our favorite pirate movie, Captain Blood!

How will you spend National Talk Like a Pirate Day?

UPDATE!
We spent our day watching Pirates of the Caribbean 2 and 3 since DH hadn't seen them all the way through yet.  I wore this!  What do you think?  It cost me $1 since I already had the bodice and skirt.  The dress was $1 at a thrift shop.  He LOVED IT!!!!  Next time I want my husband's attention... dress up as a tavern maid.  {And no, he doesn't drink... he plays D&D lol... and enjoys nautical study}

Pink Yummy Goodies

Cooler weather has arrived here in Alaska and that means I have the hankering to bake!  To be honest, I always have it... but now I don't mind heating up the kitchen, which happens to be centrally located in the house.

{Disclaimer:  These are just photos I have found for baking inspiration.  I did not bake any of these amazingly yummy looking foods... though I do plan to!}

And of course I'll need a pick me up drink after all that baking!

Please click on over to Beverly's Sweet blog and visit all the other Pink Saturday participants for this week!

A Versatile Award

Rebecca, at The Blessings of Modern Domestication, awarded my blog the Versatile Award.  I am so honored that she thought of me.  As of late, I really have tried to vary my posts and I hope my readers are enjoying the change in pace.

As per the rules of accepting this award, here are seven facts you may not know about me:
  1. I can in fact live on 3 hours of sleep per night... and have for several months now.
  2. I love to bake, much to my diet's dismay.
  3. I secretly wish LB would slow down and hold off on walking for several more months.  He learned how to walk last week and he's already pulling up.
  4. I hate doing dishes!  But... I put on some rock music and a sexy apron to do them because it makes the hubby happy not to have dirty dishes in the sink.  (He doesn't mind the dishes actually, he worries that I am depressed again if I don't do them.)
  5. I have battled depression for ten years now.  Still haven't won the war, but I've beat every battle so far, including PPD.
  6. It has taken me 9 months, 5 of which were spent with PPD, to set a daily schedule for LB and I.  He seems to like it alright... I just wish he'd sleep longer at night.... *stupid molar! Just break through already!*
  7. I love to craft... but most of the time I am too tired or lazy to actually create anything.  So, I've become a crafting supplies collector instead.

Here are 15 bloggers that I think are versatile:
  1. The Mama Trials
  2. Jenn's Journey
  3. The Girl Next Door
  4. Sweet Jeanette
  5. My Kids Are My World
  6. Jenn's World In Pictures
  7. Feeding My Family of Five
  8. My Beautiful Creations

Welcome to Motherhood - The Poop Edition

...and not baby poop...

Guess what my son did tonight?  He and the puppy were playing together in the kitchen, and of course, the puppy relieved himself in the one spot out of my line of sight.  Well, LB decides to crawl over and investigate.  As soon as he was out of my sight I went to go check on him and steer him back into the main living room/kitchen area.  I was too late!  He had it all over his feet, hands, and a bit on his face.  I can only assume he ate some that was on his hands.  DH and I quickly wiped him down with baby wipes and got him into the bathtub.  He is washed, teeth brushed with baby toothpaste, changed, and in bed now...

I'll be watching him for diarrhea and/or fever, but from what I have heard and read... it's not that big of a deal so long as the dog is up to date on it's shots which ours is.  I was pretty flustered though.  DH wanted to snap a picture while I scrubbed but I refused to let him.  I was too worried to think about it being funny one day.  Have your kids ever done this?  Is there anything I should look out for?  I'll be calling the Ped on Monday unless one of you thinks I should call someone sooner.

Something tells me this won't be the last time he eats something gross though...

Pink Remembrance and Thanks

I would like to remember those who lost their lives on Sept. 11th 2001.  I also want to give thanks for those who sacrifice their time, energy, and sometimes lives for us today.

{That soldier sporting the pink undies woke from a dead sleep, threw on his gear, and joined his fellow soldiers to protect them from the Taliban.}

Please, head over to our hostess' blog to see all the other pink posts today.  Also, please take a moment to remember one of my blogging friends and fellow pink poster who lost her battle with illness a couple weeks ago.

Babm Challenge - Day 10 Date Night

Remember when you and your hubby were dating and it was all about you?  The excitement of finding that perfect outfit, doing your hair and make up just right and seeing the expression on his face when you were finally ready...  It's time to recreate that feeling of femininity.  The Truthful Mommy wants us to ask our men to plan a night out away from the kids to reconnect and remember that interesting woman who had dreams and goals in life.

My dream date would probably be out to a romantic dinner, a nice long walk along the river, and a night in a hotel with sheets I didn't have to clean in the morning!  I think the next time grandma and grandpa come up to visit we'll have to do just that.  Until then, I'll have to settle for dinner and maybe a walk or movie.

What is your dream date?

Babm Challenge - Day 9 Pay Attention to the Little Things

What little things about yourself do you like to keep up with?

I love getting my eye brows waxed (crazy I know) and my toe nails painted.  Those are just two things that keep me feeling good about myself.  They make me feel sexy and womanly.

Babm Challenge - Day 8 Get Yourself a Life

What do you have a passion for?  Something that is just for you?  Here is a list of things I like to do just for myself.

  • Write- on my blog, novels, and poems
  • Sing
  • Take hot baths
  • Scrapbook
  • Design my house
  • Search the web for inspirational pictures

Surprise! We're Having Dinner Guests

DH called home at lunch today just to see how I was doing and to make sure my day was going well.  Sweet right?  He happened to mention that a coworker and his wife are coming over this Friday for dinner, which he thought he had already told me... NOPE!

*insert minor freak out here...*

Okay, I need to finish vacuuming, unclutter the kitchen and office, and finish cleaning the bathroom... no problem.  Then, as I was breaking down everything that needed to be done so I didn't forget something... I remembered that our table is covered in boxes of baby diapers, baby food, paper towels... pretty much everything non-refrigerated from my last Sam's trip AND it's shoved in the corner of the breakfast nook.  There is no way 4 people (and a high chair unless LB happens to be napping) are going to fit around that table!

*insert major freak out here!*

I had planned on moving some things.... okay practically everything... around in our house over the next couple of weeks, not days!  Here is the break down of what I had planned:
  • Move our Master bedroom into the "den" (which is only half way cleared out right now)
    • This includes moving the mattresses, breaking down the bed frame and putting it back together in the den... where the hell is our phillips screwdriver?!
  • Move my crafting area (and the full bed in the nursery) to what is now the master bedroom
  • Move the rocking chair from the master bedroom into the nursery where the full bed is now
  • Move the recliner from the living room to the "den" when it becomes the new master bedroom
  • Move the dining table where the craft area used to be
  • Move the puppy's area from the middle of the kitchen out of the way to the breakfast nook area
Now, if I just skip the bedroom moving, and move the craft area into the den and the dining room table into the craft area I could have it done by tomorrow... but my craft area stuff is so heavy that I wouldn't want to later move it all the way back across the house to our bedroom and the bed to the den.  (The craft area is currently right outside our bedroom door.) Oi!  I have no idea what to do.  The den won't be cleared out enough to accept the bed and dresser for another week unless I spend all day and night in there sorting.  It's taken me months to get this far so I really don't see me huddling down in there and cleaning all day today.

I guess my only options are to short hand it and deal with dragging my craft room across the house some other day, or sucking it up and getting it all done tonight.  Can you think of any other options?  Oh and on that note of needing advice... where should I put my exercise gear?!  I have an AbLounge, Exercise ball, Power Rider, and Elliptical machine that need to be somewhere out of the way yet able to be used.  I was thinking either in the living room and putting up a screen since they are ugly, or the bedroom.  Is it bad to have exercise equipment in the bedroom?  It's not very romantic...

UPDATE:  OMG you guys are so sweet!  Thank you so much for wanting to come help and for telling me to relax about it all.  Lol... I decided to stop being lazy and just do it... and I did!  I feel pumped!  I think I'll move the rest of the stuff tomorrow though because I think I just moved like 300lbs and I don't want to injure myself.   Thanks again ladies, y'all are amazing!

Babm Challenge - Day 7 Make Yourself a Priority

The Truthful Mommy wants to know what we did today to make ourselves a priority.  Well, I had a special snack, took a nap while Little Bit took his, and just got out of a nice hot bath.  That's pretty good I guess.

Some things I plan to do in the future:
  • Use the makeup I bought yesterday
  • Get a pedicure without LB with me
  • Get my hair permed (maybe, haven't decided on this one yet)
  • Go craft shopping without LB
  • Spend some time talking with DH in the evenings
What do you do to make yourself a priority?

Babm Challenge - Day 6 Try Something New

Here are some things I would like to try sometime:
  • Get a massage at a spa
  • Learn how to really do Yoga for relaxation and not just work out videos
  • Open my own business

What have you always wanted to try?

Babm Challenge - Day 5 Time For Yourself

Oh... this one is always a hard one isn't it?  Well, DH and I did make some plans for this a couple weeks back but I've yet to actually do it.  We decided that we would each be "splurging" a bit on ourselves.  He needs massages which I'm not too good at, and frankly, due to my depression don't always want to give.  And I need to relax away from the baby, and cat, and puppy, and house.... you get the idea.  So he'll be seeing a masseuse once a month and I'll be getting my nails or hair done, most likely pedicures since they are my favorite.  I have a thing about the feel and sound of filing that just irks me sometimes on my hands but not my feet.  Plus, who can turn down leaning back in a comfy massage chair for an hour and having someone massage your tired, swollen feet?  I always have to sit straight as an arrow when getting manicures and then worry for hours that I'll smudge my paint... so not relaxing.

I suppose I should lay out some ideas to relax at home when I'm having a particularly rough day or for when DH deploys and I morph into a single parent.

  • Take long (maybe when LB is napping?) hot baths
  • Bundle up the baby, strap him in his stroller and go for a walk (He always falls right to sleep)
  • Drink a cup of French vanilla coffee, s l o w l y...
  • Order a favorite movie from Netflix... I get the excitement of getting mail and the calm of watching it
  • Watch the baby sleeping and sigh contently (lol that one is always nice after a rough day with him)
  • Sit in my hobby room (once I have it set up...) and read a good book, probably with coffee and a snuggly blanket!
What do you do when you take time just for yourself?

Mirrored Walls

I am in love with these mirrored walls!  Our bed is pretty big and our bedroom is small... so these would really make it look larger.  What do you think?

I like this last one the best.  We already have the Mr. and Mrs. bedside tables in the forms of a dresser and vanity.  I really want to install a crystal chandelier over the bed too.

I so just got the insane idea to move our bedroom from one side of the house to the other... I had put it in one of the small bedrooms so it was closer to the bathroom and baby, but maybe I should move it to the "den" and move my guest/craft room to the small room we are in now.  I'd love to have a couple of sitting chairs or a bench at the end of the bed and there is no way it will fit in the standard 10X10 room.  The "den" is 15X25 (I think).

Babm Challenge - Day 4 Bring Your Sexy Back

Um, so...I actually did do something sexy today... I shocked myself, and my husband.

He is on staff duty for 24 hours and I called to see how his day was.  It wasn't going well so I joked "You could come home for dinner and I'll *beep* you and make it all better; I mean kiss you; No, I mean *beep* you!"  Well you know what?  He came home for dinner!  We didn't have much time... but I threw on a cute blouse and skirt anyways and we made out like we did in college.  I felt pretty darn sexy.  I think tonight I might put on a silky robe.... DH won't be home, but I'll feel sexy nonetheless.  He'll be home tomorrow morning and I'll be well rested. *teehee*

What do you do to feel sexy?
I put on some sexy music and dance around the house.
I daydream about how things were between DH and I when we first met.
I put on some sexy undies, even if no one else knows it (sometimes especially when no one else knows).

Stats

This new blogger stats things is sweet!  Go ego!  However... um... my highest seen post is because people are searching for Ford Taurus' on Google... but I don't care!  I have visitors. :0)  Teehee!  If you have blogger, you should check out your new stats tab.

He's Crawling!!!

He just doesn't know he is... He'll go a couple feet to get to the toy he wants but he hasn't yet figured out that he can crawl all the way across the room.
